Since 1988, Step by Step has worked to foster, support, and grow community leadership in the coalfields of West Virginia. Our team consisting of Americorps*VISTA, Americorps*Energy Express, and Twenty-First Century, part-time and full-time staff members are involved with a variety of multi-generational and educational programs. Step by Step has worked with the hopes of many disadvantaged families to acheive their previously unacheivable goals of college, careers, home improvements and being more sustainable communities in Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan and Mingo counties. Step by Step continues to focus on what West Virginians value most: self-worth, hertiage, family, and a sense of community.
Some of the things that Step by Step have acheived have included the publication of several books written by the people of Harts, West Virginia, capturing local lore and history in Lincoln, Logan and Kanawha Counties, and the resurrection of a community school as our Big Ugly Creek Community Center in Lincoln County.
