About the FSC

The Step by Step Logan County Family Support Center is a community based hub that serves all families—whether they are single-parent households, two-parent families, grandparents raising grandchildren, or other caregivers—in a safe and welcoming environment with essential programs, resources, and services designed to promote self-sufficiency and stability.

Through building our program on these factors, our center is able to properly address and prevent problems before they arise.

Services Offered

Our Family Support Center offers a variety of programs for children, youth, teens, and adults, including:

Mobility Mentoring Coaching
Parenting Classes
Support Groups
Child Development Activities
Pantry Services

Mobility Mentoring is a program designed to help individuals identify personal goals and create a plan to achieve them. Whether working toward financial stability, education, employment, or personal growth, our center provides personalized support to encourage success.

Since starting Mobility Mentoring in 2025, we have coached 20 individuals, who have all made significant progress toward reaching goals. Some notable goals that have been reached through our Mobility Mentoring Program include:

Securing a stable job
Home repairs
Getting a driver's license
Improving mental health
Saving money
Earning a GED

Our parenting classes are multi-session, evidence-informed programs designed to build parenting knowledge, strengthen family relationships, and promote healthy child development through every stage of parenting.

Throughout our parenting education programming, we have offered a variety of educational classes, including a Family Garden Day where parents and caregivers learned how to grow a garden to save money on fresh fruits and vegetables.

We have also provided relationship education classes through WVU, hygiene and cleaning classes to support personal care habits, healthy cooking classes, and mental health classes focused on family well-being.

Our goal is to equip families with skills, confidence, and resources to create positive home environments for children.

For older children and teens ages 6–17, we offer Youth and Teen Support Groups every Monday and Wednesday. Groups are separated by age to ensure youth and teens receive support and activities that are appropriate for their developmental stage while encouraging confidence, healthy relationships, and emotional well-being.

For parents and caregivers, we host Parent Support Groups every Thursday at 2:00 PM, creating a welcoming space to connect, share experiences, and receive support.

Our Open Food Pantry is available every Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, helping provide food assistance to individuals and families in our community. This specific resource does not require children in the household to receive assistance.

Another pantry located in our center is the hygiene and baby pantry. These items may be received after participation in a class and are available up to four times per year.

In case of an emergency, families may access our food, hygiene, and/or baby pantry twice per year in addition to the regularly scheduled food pantry days and activities that provide pantry items as part of the curriculum. Families do not need to participate in classes or activities in order to receive emergency pantry supplies.

We offer emergency assistance for families with children in the home to help during times of unexpected hardship. This could include assisting with utility bills, car repairs, or other expenses that could negatively impact families if not resolved in a timely manner.

In addition, Kinship Beds may be available to support kinship caregivers who are welcoming children into their homes and need safe sleeping arrangements.
